The collective wisdom of my Caribbean Creole family can be summarized in these words of my mother:
"... to live from a grateful heart, a heart that cannot be shriveled small, because it has been broken, widened and filled with all the joys and sorrows a life can hold. One has to be thankful, son, for small things.
Try always to see the brighter side."
