Pentecost - what a world we would have!

PENTECOST SUNDAY has arrived - the climax of Christian Easter celebrations.
The very word PENTEKOSTE HEMERA means the 50th day after Easter when the Holy Spirit makes presence. St. Luke tells us we are witnesses to a new order of grace. The sin of pride is reversed as a new unity fashions us anew. The memory of Babel is overturned in a message of forgiveness and salvation for every language group. St. John recalls the gathered disciples in an upper room. They experienced what can be described as a precious gift of the Spirit like streams of light and energy forging a new agenda for them to continue the mission of Jesus. Those same gifts Christians believe have been received at their Baptism and Confirmation. We as believers recognize the one Spirit as the basis for unity and equality in all. Even more, the use of the Spirit's gifts focuses on the common good. What cherished ideals!
Peace, Forgiveness and Understanding are powerful ingredients for anyone. If we were to practice what we preach; then, what a world we would have!
May the gifts of the Spirit touch our hearts as we celebrate the wonder of Divinity!
