Summer art: "Still Life with fruits", 2012-2015.

Summer provides ample time for planting, painting and photography, all of which I like tremendously. Over the last four years, I have created my own versions of  'Still life with fruits' (photos seen above). Unconsciously, I have to admit I am influenced by works I have seen and admired, among them, 16th century Caravaggio's, "Still Life with fruits on a Stone Ledge." His masterpiece has many connotations which may not be suitable for polite company; but, still dramatic in its content. The Italian Renaissance invented this style of "Still Life," portraying fruits with decisive intentions. Botanists, on the other hand, claim these fruit canvases offer a unique perspective on horticulture. I am fascinated by both explanations and love art for art itself. Our prudish society might look askance at these fruit canvases. My four photographic fruit portrayals, in my opinion, contain their own beauty. Whether we are painting, taking photos or reaping our fruit harvests; be satisfied by their color, clarity, proportion and splendor. The artist tries to create an order to 'catch what pleases the eye!'
If you choose to 'google' Caravaggio's "Still Life with fruits on a Stone Ledge" note that we will never know the artist's true intentions. Some write he intended "to give the fig" - a euphemism for an obscene gesture or a generic visual pun. And of my intentions, your guess is as good as mine. This summer, enjoy the labors of your gardens; your fruits and your photography. Try a "Still Life with fruits," you may be surprised at your results as I am of mine! (lol)

A wonderful summer to all. "Buon Ferragosto a tutti."
