I began 2016 with 'Laughter' as my word of life inspired partly by the Chinese Year of the Monkey.
The monkey is prized as intelligent, witty and inventive. At the same time, he or she is described as mischievous and playful. I like the symbols of this ancient tradition which can be applicable in any situation in our busy lives. My father's people believe this year is a time for taking risks and reaching out for new heights. It is a year, he would say to me, his eldest son, to be a man of courage and action.
Marchez-en-avant is what my Creole family would add! Move forward! Make strides and stretch out for what lies ahead. Every new year propels me to act wisely especially as I grow older, hopefully, perhaps with a more joyful and child-like spirit. The Chinese mythological monkey is also about playfulness and as my mother would say taking it light.
So in this Chinese New Year, I want to laugh more and have a lighter spirit as I reach new horizons.
Do not be afraid of risks and laugh more in 2016.
Marchez-en-avant! Move forward! May we reach new heights!
