"Keep death daily before one's eyes" (St. Benedict of Nursia)

During the month of November, we remember our deceased. Death, I learnt at an early age growing up in the Caribbean, is nothing to be feared. As young monks, Milo and I learnt this saying of Saint Benedict "to keep death daily before one's eyes". Rather than think of it in negative terms, we were encouraged to see what Benedict intended that we maintain a disposition in life that demands a healthy appreciation for what we have and a gratitude for what has been given to us. Peace.
